#512011-06-15 22:03When I first heard about these proposals I was both shocked and worried for the welfare of new mums and their babies. I had my first child in Raigmore 18 yrs ago and it was common practice to keep the mum and baby in for a week. In that first week we were shown how to bathe, feed and change our babies. If we had any worries at all there was always a midwife there to advice us and help us through what can sometimes be a very overwhelming experience for a new mum. Please Do not close ward 9 . |

#542011-06-15 22:27I have had my 2 children here and both time the wards were full - just showing how invaluable raigmore maternity is to the highlands and islands - We must keep it open!!! |

#55 Raigmore Maternity - Keep Open2011-06-15 22:29I am still in shock about this - I cant understand how this can even be thought about closing Raigmore Maternity - its just ridiculous! Please sing and help us show them how much we need to keep this service |

#572011-06-15 22:33The staff of ward 10 at Raigmore were fantastic during my 7 night stay. Although this was necessary as I had complications, had my labour been straightforward I would have been terrified being sent home as soon as 6 hours after the birth. They need more beds if anything - not less! |

#592011-06-15 22:34I think it is utter madness, i know when i had my first child he was delivered with foreseps it was a very frighting time for me being just nineteen, i was in for five days and was so glad of the support of the nurses and other Mums, to cut back on this will result in many deaths i fear of both babies and mothers, this has got to be stopped. So come on people dont just sit there make a stand. |

#602011-06-15 22:35Our youngest daughter was stillborn last year in Raigmore Hospital, our 2nd youngest was 4 weeks early in 2008 & I nearly lost my life in 2005 due to undiagnosed type IV placenta praevia with our oldest daughter. To close even more beds would put mothers and babies at a higher risk of what has already happened to me. The UK already has one of the highest rates of stillbirth & neonatal death in the world ~ closing more beds will not remedy these figures. |

#622011-06-15 22:42They can not close the beds at Raigmore Maternity I had all of my children there and the staff are the best, to ask mum`s to travel farther is so wrong some mum already have to travel from Skye and Stornaway because there is not beds there. Leave the beds as they are as this is the best maternity hospitable around |

#652011-06-15 23:06This is so shocking iv heard of cost cutting but this is babys lives our future adults and the nhs are willing to put them in danger of going home hours of being born surely the first 24hours are important to a wee baby and maybe even long. I had my baby girl masie in january and I went through a really bad labour and the midwifes were really good this should not b haappening |

#692011-06-15 23:40Our baby was born at Raigmore on 2nd February 2011. She was very poorly and needed to spend time in intensive care at SCBU. Mum also had to have some general surgery as well. In total we were at Raigmore for 7 days. The care my family received in the maternity wards was second to non. Some things are more important than profits and balance sheets. Any plan to cut beds and therefore chip away at patient care should be fought. |

#70 Re:2011-06-15 23:41I lived on The Isle of Skye and had both my sons in ward 9. My youngest, now 14, spent the 1st 3 weeks of his life in the SCBU. The treatment we got in Raigmore was amazing, can not fault it at all. Where would I have had my children if there was no ward 9??? it's criminal to even think about closing it |

#742011-06-16 00:56My son was born in this Maternity unit..had a few problems and i can imagine having to go all the way to Glasgow or Aberdeen when i needed medical assistance in the height of labour...it's crazy to even imagine the whole of the north of Scotland without a maternity unit...never mind even if you have to come from one of the islands!! We need this to stay right where it is!!! |
