#1522016-04-05 06:12I don't want to talk about 'saving' The Drum it will be 'saved'. As mentioned above better management and marketing is needed. Do not be afraid to call on your other community partnerships who are thriving or who have been in a similar situation to yours. Management is key here - you can all the people in the world passionate about arts but understanding the business aspect is a different matter. Marketing - The amonut of good things I'v seen on or advertised at The Drum is crazy high but the marketing was always poor. Research, analyse your audience. Talk to your audience at shows recognise your regulars. Give them discount where possible but also don't be afraid to push your groups such as #youngdrum towards arts in the city and outside of it. You may be an arts centre but your not just that your a shining light to the communities of North Birmingham so be noisy and don't be afraid to risk it to bring new audiences and be real. |

#1532016-04-05 06:28To also add to my last comment. You want all ages to use the centre? Have consultations with your audience from young to old every few months. They make up your numbers and anyhow you see a different crowd in your settings find ways to bring this crowd back by giving them space to talk about what else they would like to see, if they want to perform or even if that an idea of there own. Let them in and bring them under your wing. Thank you. |

#1562016-04-05 08:18I was born and brought up in Birmingham. So sad to hear that the Drum is to close. This is both a local resource and an important center supporting arts often marginalized from mainstream venues. I do hope that local people near and far will stand up and fight to save the Drum. |

#1582016-04-05 09:01A city the size of Birmingham needs this venue - we need more than just the MAC. And I love the diversity of the Drum! |

#1592016-04-05 09:23Because I believe that the arts matter, not just black arts. Arts matter because without it how else would we be able to express ourselves, shy or confident we rely on the arts to communicate with each other and the outside world as we know it! No one in this world is telepathic so why assume we can survive without the only thing that keeps up going. Arts are my veins and the drum is the drip....please don't take it out. |

#1652016-04-05 17:24Having taught in the area for years I know how valuable The Drum is to the community. It would be a great loss if it closed. |

#1702016-04-05 20:58There is a pursual of destruction to BAME resources, support, venues we can express ourselves and achieve expansion. If this petition can help that's great. There are BAME people who can collaborate effectively to keep this venue open and engage the global community in its evolution and diversify it's objectives whilst being true to a vision of maintaining a legacy of excellence and transparency in financial dealings so this shouldn't be happening. I'll be sad if it is lost. I've enjoyed many types of live and cinematic events, participated in workshops, performed in theatre productions and dined there. Met the most creative, uplifting souls and life long friendships were forged at The Drum. #Blackartsmatter #savethedrum |

#1712016-04-05 21:18I have spent many of an evening at the Drum enjoying the entertainment and socialising. This venue has served the community and to lose this facility would be ashame. |

#1722016-04-06 01:12We need to keep The Drum going for the children of tomorrow. But like many businesses, we cannot do it alone. We need support and we cannot give up so easily. Don't we as a nation count for anything. |

#1732016-04-06 08:25Because I have attended The Drum for many events: plays, my 40th birthday party, concerts, performances from my daughter's school etc & on all occasions, I had a good time. I would be extremely disappointed if The Drum closed down. |

#1742016-04-06 08:46i signed this petition because i feel that over the years every thing that has been allocated to us has been slowly but slowly taken away. I am aware that when we riot or some gorverment supported organisation say that the negative behaviour of the black youth is due to the lack of oportunity and facilities they then give us some token gesture. When things quiten down they then take it away from us then give it to another minority group that has more financial influence over local goverment policy. This has been the case historically in birmingham hence we end up with nothing. Considering how long black people we have been established in birmingham i think it is unacceptable that the one major meeting place were our we are able to meet and be entertained by our own is now been taken away from us |

#1752016-04-06 08:57This is the only event we have which is multicultural, where buy you can dress up and enjoy yourself for a good night out. Which is local and accessible 4 disable people. Why can't we use the drum 4 small wedding receptions tables and chairs could have the covers which is make the drum look more attractive for these events it's one way to make the extra money that is needed or do cocktail evenings it would be total shame and loss if the drum was too close it's doors after all these years.... PLEASE DON'T CLOSE DOWN THE DRUM. |
