NMMU PETITION: Unlawful Protests violating our Right to Education

We all have the right to be in a institution which provides a safe enviroment , for us all to complete our study of choice. Important to note is our choice. When you make the decision to further your studies in order to equipt you in your career of choice, and you pay for that choice( time, dedication), no one must be given the power to rob someone from that opportunity. Each person investing their time into further studies are contributing to a society at large. When i was studying at varsity i had to take out a student loan and work at night as a waitress to pay for my studies, so did many of my fellow students. There were no disruptions caused . No we all had one thing in common and that was to get a degree and make a life for ourselves. Today it does not always seem that way. For those who are still trying and wanting an education needs to be empowered.

Vandalism is not going to resolve anything. South Africans also need to stop expecting handouts from a limited and exhausted tax base - financial assistance for those in need no problem, but a demand for free education for all (and for anything else for that matter) is out of touch with reality.

My daughter and thousands of other students surely have the right to attend classes and finish her degree

I want to work towards a better future for aouth africa and myself not one where the majority of our future cannot read or write and that is all that closing the universities will bring us

My son is in 2nd year business and he really wants to finish this year..they are eager to complete their degrees so they can move on as planned.

I have a student at NMMU which costs money!

It bugs me no end that a bunch of criminals can hold a university to ransom.

We as student who have paid for our education are now suffering due to those who feel striking is the only solution. What about the rest of us. What about our right to education. Why do we have to suffer? We are being robbed of time, education and our money!!!

We support our child and another student (who is unable to get a bursary and family not able to pay tuition fees) Demonstrationse should be held at parliament buildings as that is where the problem lies

Because I agree that our right to education is being violated and that we are being threatened and intimated into staying away from our university. The UNIVERSITY CAN NOT GIVE FREE EDUCATION, SO WHY ARE THE STUDENTS WHO ARE TRYING TO MAKE A LIFE FOR THEMSELVES BEING DEPRIVED? Your fight is not with the UNIVERSITY, it's with the GOVERNMENT.

I want to pursue my career

The non protesting students are being denied their right to attend lectures

This is the best way to show the world that its just the majority,that is denting our image as S.A students,labelling us as rebel,stubborn and not serious about education..

I have family and friends who have children studying at Nmmu. The took out loans and overdrafts to fund this. Why are their rights to get what they paid for not protected and looked after?

I've been tolerant and empathetic for long enough. I have always had sympathy for the previously disadvantaged but their continued barbaric and unlawful actions have served to alienate me against them. Enough is enough. Grow up and resolve problems in a civilised manner!

I as a student am working really hard to get my degree. I put in a lot of time and effort, and to waste my time, as well as my parents money like this is just a disgrace. Education is the key to my future. I understand the reason for this protest, but let the students be .. Let us grow and learn.
