#762012-10-29 20:37I would like to say two of 69 and 72. What will these best practice solve in Attitude, Policy, Statue, and Language Plannings? All of them are need to fixed to better put in system in standard education. I know two of them in F.S.L and SEE may have biggest impacted issues to be conflict of cultures. In my opinon, is that what FSL high recommandly to make Attitude planning, Policy planning, and Language Planning which they will need to divide in situations, which need result and it need to applied one of the Heads of the Deaf of Education and SPED. SPED should have started with them to make best decision. How are difference between Medical and Individual affected to Deaf Children's to Deaf Adult perspectives? If with CODA (Child Of Deaf Adult) |

#78 Re: Re: Re:2012-10-29 21:36Yes! during the congressional hearing on FSL bill last oct 16 the deped-sped declared that they have been using SEE as medium of instructions for years in public schools even through there is an existing 1997 sped guidelines mandating the use of FSL as medium of instruction.. If you can read and understand my msg you will see that what i mean is that the use of SEE for years resulted on producing garduates with poor english reading and writting skills..I have been Deaf all my life and practically surrounded by Deaf people most of my life so how will i not know?..Do you mean hearing people like you knows how to be Deaf better than us the real Deaf people?..You are welcome to come in our community and find out all the evidence that you need.. Excuse me! FSL have been around during the spanish era as documented by friars from Dulac leyte..In modern times we have conducted a National Sign Language Committee study during the time of Sec Raul Roco which have results in 54% of the respondents claimed FSL as their prefferred language, in those times there is still no existing FSL advocacy yet awareness on FSL is prevalent through out the country..As a result of this studies 1997 SPED guidelines mandated the use of FSL as medium of instruction in Deaf education.. If you want more studies and facts you can visit anytime the PDRC and PFD office..there are also existing publications in the internet.. As a parting word, DEAF PEOPLE LIKE US HAVE LONG ENDURED HEARING SOLUTIONS FOR THE SUPPOSED TO BE DEAF PROBLEM BUT NOTHING IS WORKING, IT IS ABOUT TIME THAT A DEAF SOLUTION TO THE DEAF PROBLEM BE IMPLEMENTED |

#82 Re: Re: Support Deaf People’s Right to their OWN Language!!!2012-10-30 08:18#38: Juan Luna - Re: Support Deaf People’s Right to their OWN Language!!! With all due respect to your ideas miss, but I believe there are some things you have to think about!
You said... .....Did they develop the needed competencies they need for higher education? Did they have greater opportunities for employment? ( Why should we blame it to SEE? There are several factors you have to consider in having greater opportunities for employment! - and SEE is not a major part of it... if you want more employment then ask the government to pass a bill that will increase more job opportunities for the Hearing Impaired people! (Hello! hearing people experience the same!! but do we blame language for not having job?? - that is not FAIR!!!) You are proposing a wrong medicine to a wrong illness causing it to be more severe!! ******---->do you think we blame it to SEE? We said NO. We never blame it to SEE. because we need provide our sign language to use FSL from SEE that's why I believe Deaf community that they are usually using natural sign language. I speculate my questions to you. If you are teacher for teaching Deaf Kids. How is your reaction in view of Deaf perspective in the schools? Explain me then if I can answer you. If you use SEE, what do Deaf students understand an English? or what do you act your performance for Deaf kids if they understand your act? Explain.
You said ..... .......insist signed English should be used in the education of Deaf children ( The purpose of Education is to create an impact to a child's life!! Excuse me miss Techie!! DO YOU HAVE RELEVANT EXPERIENCE IN TEACHING DEAF KIDS? ARE YOU A LISENCED SPED TEACHER??? Do you know the concept of Modeling and its impact to learning!!! Bandura said that there should be a good model for learning to occur meaningfully, SEE can provide that model which FSL cant!! CAN YOU TEACH THE ENGLISH SUBJECT USING FILIPINO LANGUAGE? Of course not! Thus, we have to follow the rules....)
You said..... .... Who has more right to find ways to help deaf children to have better future? Deaf people or hearing people? (ARE YOU A DEAF OR A HEARING PERSON????? WHO DRAFTED THE BILL IN THE FIRST PLACE, A DEAF OR A HEARING PERSON!! THIS IS NOT A QUESTION OF BEING A DEAF OR A HEARING PERSON!!!!!!!! THE MAIN THOUGHT STAYS ON THE IDEA OF YOUR INTENTION!!!!!!! IS IT JUST FOR FAME OR FOR GREATER GLORY OF OTHER SOCIAL CLASSES. ... NOT CONSIDERING THE IMPACT OF OTHER LANGUAGES INHIBIT YOU FROM ACHIEVING INCLUSION!!!EDUCATION SHOULD BE DIRECTED TOWARDS THIS MAIN GOAL.. INCLUSION..... BUT YOU ARE DOING IT IN AN OPPOSITE WAY :( )
you said ..... .... Deaf people want to learn how to write and read English, but they want to learn it in the context of their Deaf experience, using their Filipino Sign Language as primary language to communicate and learn in the classroom and everywhere else. ( Are you familiar with the term MODIFICATION OF PROGRAM??? What do you think of us, Sped teachers in the field, ignorant and do not consider others differences??? That is why we have flexible curriculum!!!!QUESTIONING MY MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION IS QUESTIONING MY CAPACITY AS A TEACHER TO IMPART MY KNOWLEDGE!!!! IF YOU WANT, COME TO MY CLASS AND YOU WILL SEE HOW MY STUDENTS CREATE THEIR SONNETS AND HAIKUS !!! ) ******---->SONNETS and HAIKUS? Make Deaf students bored. "PAULIT-ULIT." Even they are interested in expressing their stories by themselves in the classroom. I believe Deaf kids, who are improving in communication because they are usually using FSL! If you use SEE for teaching Deaf kids, but they do not have concept of expression that's why the reasons they are shallowing of their minds. "PAULIT-ULIT." What do you think?
you said... .... Deaf people who are isolated and discriminated by people who don’t believe in Deaf rights and by the system that only recognize hearing people’s rights.
( Dont you think you will be more discriminated if you are not fully equipped with the necessary LITERACY SKILLS NEEDED?? You are doing something that will make you more discriminated by the society!!!! People from different places, regardless of cultural background are trying to learn English because it it one to be considered necessary for globalization.... SHOULD YOU ALWAYS RELY TO YOUR INTERPRETER>????? )
you said.. ....Who should we support? Deaf people who represents the Deaf community and are fighting for Deaf rights? Or hearing people and some deaf people who just don’t like FSL to be used in education?? (FALLACY!!! )
you said our children to have a better future .... Do you have a child???? IS he or she familiar and knowledgeable of the English language??? or only Filipino?? If both then dont deprive the students from learning both .....!!!!! Deaf people should also have the right to learn the CORRECT STRUCTURE OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE!!! yOU have clearly stated THAT FSL HAS A DIFFERENT STRUCTURE ..... THEN IN CANT ADDRESS THE IDEA OF TEACHING ENGLISH BECAUSE ENGLISH IS ALSO DIFFERENT!!!!! ******----> I agreed with Ms. Techie. I believe that our children to have a better future. REQUIRE OF USING ENGLISH LANGUAGE? How about the Deaf children who understand an English? or not? Explain me.
....... I am NOT against the FSL BILL... but there should be MODIFICATIONS!! particularly on the MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION IN SCHOOLS!!!! Talk if you are really into the BASIC EDUCATION OF THESE CHILDREN>>>>>Kung KATULAD KITA na GURO sa ELEMENTARYA eh dun ka magmaganda... salamat :)

#85 Propagating the use of FSL2012-10-31 10:25What I wish for the Deaf is proficiency, not just in FSL, but in other sign as well as written languages. To be able to sign in FSL, following the syntax they have learned in FSL, but also the syntax in written English (or Tagalog), when they write in these languages. Why limit the Deaf to only one kind of language? What I would also like to see is the production of educational materials for the easy propagation of FSL. In the States, or online, there are many books and videos to help parents teach even very young children ASL, but I can't seem to find any materials to help me learn FSL. Those who are promoting the adoption of FSL as the national sign language should work hard at producing these instructional or learning materials, so that they can be accessible to anyone who wants or needs to learn FSL. |

#882012-11-01 01:45Filipino Sign Language is a solid foundation especially because Deaf community needs that and can't even speak very well. Deaf must depend on FSL as the FIRST priority as highly expected. |

#912012-11-01 02:31Unless you become Deaf yourself (note the capital 'D') , then you don't have the business telling what language the Deaf wanted to use. It is a natural reaction for the Deaf minority to defend its language and culture against a dominant and oppressive hearing majority. FSL is for the Filipino Deaf, developed by the Filipino Deaf and represents the Filipino Deaf. |

#96 My response to Juan Luna and others2012-11-01 07:20Dear Juan Luna, Anika and others, I am an educator too. I have not taught in elementary. Only Deaf college students for 10 years in self-contained classes as well as handled self-esteem improvement and development programs and provided counseling services to Deaf youth, their parents and to Deaf peers. My next assignments included school leadership roles in both academic and non academic support services, including services for inclusion and success in lucrative employment opportunities after college. |
