#176 Re: car park2014-03-11 10:15#163: stop and think of real reason - car park You don't seem to have grasped the main issues here. Firstly they are doing away with Bircham park and ride so that is not an option. Secondly, using the George park and Ride is not an option for some because driving 2 miles PAST work and then waiting in the traffic to get back to Derriford (becasue there is no Bus lane) can take up to 45 minutes. The surrounding infrastructure can not support this ill-thought-out excuse for a parking solution. And to add insult to injury, rather than reducing the charges to accomodate this inconvenience, they are charging £49 per month for it. Moreover, many staff are working parents and have to do the school run beforehand, so walking/cycling or leaving earlier is not an option.

#1772014-03-11 10:30OUTRAGEOUS!! I'm not even earing a 'living wage' and I am expected to pay a fortune to ocme to work. Need to drastically rethink things as I really can't afford this increase. |

#1782014-03-11 14:06I don't believe staff or patients should pay for parking at hospitals. There may well be some well paid consultants working there but there are many more low paid workers who work 24/7 365 days (shifted)a year. |

#1792014-03-11 15:26I am an essential car user and have no choice but to come to work by car. This increase is very unfair on workers like myself |

#1802014-03-11 15:35As we in the NHS have not had a pay rise for a couple of years, how are we to afford and extra £40.00 a month for car parking |

#1822014-03-11 22:10People at Derriford yes you do a great job and I understand your feelings however so many people are in retail live miles out and have no access or transport and if they do spend a lot to get to work and if they have a car ,car parks and park and ride are more expensive so stop bleating and deal with it |

#1832014-03-11 22:46Speaking as a potential patient whose care would be heavily dependent upon staff morale and their availability, this penny pinching approach to staff care seems a poor sign of leadership from the higher echelons of governance and management seem to get more and more reimbursements the lower those become of staff |

#1842014-03-12 08:29Part of the Hospital 'green' policy.... I have to travel further, drive past the hospital and try and get throught one of the worst bottle necks in plymouth - Twice adding at least 1.5 hours onto my day and pay more for the privilage how does this make sense?? |

#185 Re:2014-03-12 09:27#182: - That's a bit of a harsh statement. I'm unsure as to your understanding of the issues here; I understand there are about 6500 employees at Derriford. About 1000 staff parking spaces that are in active use are to be removed by June, and the cost of parking is to go up for staff by 105% - not only are staff aggrieved at the enforced increase, but there is genuine concern at the loss of so much parking capacity. If you thought your journey to retail was difficult, how much worse will it be when this kicks in? Derriford staff do a fantastic job, they are a specialist centre for so many different procedures that saves lives all day every day and the Westcountry could not cope without them.

#1872014-03-12 15:30With no pay rise to have such an increase in the car park charge is a disgrace . I will. Not pay that price and will not be surprised to see people quit their. Jobs . And it sTates at the entrance of Derriford that they value their staff. Well they clearly don't |

#1882014-03-12 15:34People saying that they pay over that because they work in town............ Royal parade is full of buses until 11pm which is. Cheaper . Some of us don't have a choice to bring a car to work . Due to shift work or where we live. |

#1892014-03-12 18:45Why does it cost more to park a car on the same piece of Tarmac now than it did four years ago? I suspect it down to plugging up the overspend in the hospital. Seems that NHS is asking it's staff to pay for the systems failure to manage the budget. |

#1902014-03-13 08:48This is simply cynical profiteering wrapped in eco-spin, exploiting staff, particularly those who work long and/or variable hours or shifts and have no viable alternative other than to use the staff car parks. This should not be permitted by the Trust. But unfortunately PHNT continues to disregard it staff. |

#1912014-03-13 18:44No surprise, as usual, that Derriford have no respect or consideration for their staff. As a 'failing' hospital you would think they would want their staff on their side but clearly not. Well done executive team for yet another very bad and poor judgement. |

#1922014-03-14 09:29I wouldn't be surprised if this was all down to Vinci. The Trust contract out a private parking company (who are all a bunch of con artists) to run their car parks, who in turn decide to install all these fancy, state-of-the-art swipe card/pay-on-exit systems, which cost a fortune to run and break down on a weekly basis (the barriers were up for a whole week recently), so the Trust is forced to pass the cost onto the end users, it's staff. Apcoa's bog-standard 'pay £1.20 on exit' system worked fine and probable cost next to nothing to maintain. Perhaps if the cost of parking is to increase to £44.50 a month, we should get a £44.50 cost-of-living increase in our wages each month to cover it? |

#1932014-03-14 09:43Again the costs of the mistakes of the management are passed onto the innocent staff members. The Trust used to own Car Park E, then they sold it for a lump sum profit and decided to rent it back, several years later they've now paid more than twice the amount they got for the land in rent, nice move. And the Vinci thing is right, Vinci are a bunch of crooks and they're useless at fulfilling their security contracts as well. Derriford is supposed to be a Smoke Free site, but there's smokers at every entrance. Vinci, being the security, are supposed to deal with it, but if you approach them and tell them "someone's smoking at the main entrance" which is less than 20 feet away from them, they fob you off, telling you either "by the time we get there they'll have gone" or "well if you're not prepared to confront them why should we?" Completely useless and a complete waste of money for the Trust. This is the cancer that's bringing this brilliant hospital down, chronic money wastage by an utterly incompetent management. |

#1942014-03-14 10:14The Trust should be ashamed of itself, these increases do not only effect staff but the very people they treat, patients and the familys that have to visit them. The parking charges my well have not increased over the last few years, but neither have salaries, staff pay has remaind static and below inflation increases, some staff have even suffered cuts in pay. Inflation is low so why have staff, patients and visitors being subjected to a 100% plus increasing in parking? |

#1962014-03-15 17:06terrified an increase and no pay rise, really worried about cost of living ,child care costs etc and this on top, they need to realise that if you don't look after your staff they cant look after the patients!!!!! |

#197 Poor public transport is actually not an option2014-03-17 14:38As a bus user, I fully empathise with people who are going to be forced to use it as a mode of transport now because even if you do live on one of the main bus routes which is rare, the quality of service provided is absolutely dire!! I can attest to that first hand. As a result you will have staff members constantly late and there is nothing they can do about it. Staff members stranded very easily as sometimes buses just simply dont show up! So have a poorer workforce and unable to be prompt. It is the management who will suffer for their lack of consideration in the end. The concept of staff having to pay for parking the first place is utterly absurd, nevermind these prices! |

#1982014-03-17 18:24I feel the car parking charge increase is too steep. The public transport in this region could be better. I live in Saltash which has a very limited bus service from Derriford and therefore no choice but to use the car park. The users of the Plymouth site seem to be being discrimated against compared to other NHS facilities within the SW region. The price increase is disgusting. |

#2002014-03-19 21:52The exploitation of the masses by the few, who actually believe their justification, with no idea of what its really like when struggling to keep your head above water. (Every pound matters) Sooner or later people will realise what can be achieved if they stick together. I wonder if the time has come. |
