I think the state of animal protection is disgusting and the laws need to be looked at and something done even some states in america have made it legal for people to break animals out of cars if they have been locked inside in the heat. I have had a dealing with the spca trying to get help but nothing was ever followed up or done, I realise they are busy but its not cutting it when there was a dog in distress. Plus also not helping is the punishments for animal abuse are just a joke and hardly a deterrent for some people. There is something wrong with the people that can abuse and torture animals like that

Because obviously the powers that be are incapable of ensuring animal welfare. We treat farm animals dreadfully - pigs, chickens, dairy cows and whilst the public are horrified for about 5 minutes (recent bobby calf furore ) they soon forget and nothing changes.

As an ECE worker research suggests lack of empathy and cruel treatment of animals leads to the same behaviour in adulthood towards people and we all know the terrible record New Zealand has regarding the murder of babies and young children!! So lets stop people teaching children to be cruel to animals but to show empathy and compassion if this means fines and jail time let the lesson be learnt.!!

Because dogs should have rights as well. They are family members and the neglect and abuse that is going on in NZ and around the world saddens an sickens me. People who abuse animals usually go on to abuse and kill people. The law only steps in when people are involved. Animals/dogs must be protected. My girl is my life, if anyone did something to her, she would feel the same things we feel if we were hurt etc. I would have no hesitation killing/hurting someone if they harmed my girl, hence, we need the Police etc to act in cases to stop our fur babies from any and all abuse, so we are not forced into taking the law into our own hands. This is long overdue and I support this cause 110%.
