#1772014-03-12 09:42I do not sign petitions, as a rule. But I will sign this one. Britain has much to answer for - this was not a "Famine" as much as it was deliberate genocide. |

#1782014-03-12 15:59"DELIBERATE" is the key word in this genocide! Many of us lost so many family members.....it is so sad. I say, Lets make a Movie about this!!!!! Get the truth out & hold the Brit government accountable |

#1822014-03-13 04:33This is a genocide never recognised correctly..even reading about the 'land leader ', would shock most nations..as they say the grass juice was running from our nations people's mouths while the ships set sail for England laden.. |

#1862014-03-13 17:57WELL DONE! it is about Time that the World is reminded of The Atrocities committed by The English O ppressors.I lived in the West Indies for many years and ONLY THEN I learned that millions of Irish people were sold as Slaves in America, The indies especially Barbados and Montserrat who still celebrate St Patricks Day. Look at their national Flag "We were Slaves BEFORE the African Slave Trade in those Places. But WHO KNOWS? I was NOT taught about it at School. |

#1872014-03-13 18:34I HAVE ALWAYS BELIEVED THE SO CALLED FAMINE WAS THE ETHNIC CLEANSING OF MAINLY THE IRISH RURAL LABOURING CLASS.IT WAS A BRITISH POLICY BUT SHAMEFULLY SUPPORTED BY THE IRISH LANDOWNING, MERCHANT AND MIDDLE CLASSES.THE BRITISH DID THE SAME IN SCOTLAND AND CALLED IT THE HIGHLAND CLEARANCES. EVICT THE PEOPLE AND REPLACE THEM WITH SHEEP. THE TRUTH HAS ALWAYS BEEN MANIPULATED BY THOSE IN POWER BECAUSE IT HAS SUITED THEM TO DO SO. TELL THE TRUTH NOW. |

#1902014-03-13 20:35Thank you for the TRUTH about the Great Hunger and shining the light on why n how my great grandparents came to leave Ireland. It saddens me deeply to think so many other relatives and fellow Irish countrymen perished under such utter cruelty. Thank you again for your work! |

#1932014-03-14 02:29This hatred towards the Irish still exists. However overt or hidden. It's political in nature and all else that follows. I have been a victim of it many times. Even today I fell foul of it. I left 20 years ago, but it is here in America. Our teachers in The Beara Peninsula all told us the truth. It was never hidden or lied about. Your article forgets about passage to Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Canada and the Americas, both north and south. We are all over the world. We didn't all succumb to death, some of us wouldn't give them that last satisfaction thank you! |

#1962014-03-14 13:23I support you in your efforts to make know the truth of what happened to our people during these 'Famines' and the true cause of the starvation our ancestors suffered. |

#197 Re:2014-03-14 13:32#187: - I would truly like to thank you for your recognition of the Scotts who suffered the same fate as our people. It must be remembered many others across the world were made to suffer under the Crown. The genocide failed as the Irish are now in positions of authority across the World. Let us remember and now rise up.

#1982014-03-14 14:30Just lost my son, Kevin Groves. My grandparents, Mary Gavavhan, John Galvin, William and Mary Maguire were born in Mayo, Galway, Tyrone and Fermanagh on the 1860's. They emigrated to America in 1880's as a result of the famine, hunger, starvation!!! Long ago I read Cecil Woodham-Smith's hunger. According to the author, the Crow Indians were the ONLY group that sent food to the Irish people. My son Kevin was a small part Native American. He died of a mental illness on Jan. 9, 2014. How do I contribute? Is the symbol Euros? Thank you, Patty McMenamin |
